Without much fanfare, Intel rolled out its SSD 760p series. This is a new line of lower-end NVMe SSDs, they use the M.2 form factor and feature the company's 64-layer 3D TLC NAND flash memory in combination with the Silicon Motion SM2262 controller.

Compared the to previous generation, Intel says the SSD 760p offer twice the performance, up to 50 percent active power consumption reduction, and up to 6x the performance versus SATA at near SATA pricing.

Here's a slide from Intel that details the expected performance of the SSD 760p series. Interestingly, the footnotes mention the performance figures were obtained prior to the implementation of the updates for the Meltdown and Spectre CPU vulnerabilities.

Intel will ship the SSD 760p in 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB capacities. The fastest version offers up to 3230MB/s read speeds, 1625MB/s write speeds, 340k random read IOPS and 275k random write IOPS.

The pricing for the 128GB, 256GB and 512GB versions is $74, $109, and $199, respectively. The 1TB and 2TB versions will follow later this quarter. In terms of price/performance, these new models look mightily impressive.
