Bill Gates disses cryptocurrencies for facilitating drug trade

In an Ask Me Anything (AMA) session on Reddit, Bill Gates spoke out against cryptocurrencies. The Microsoft founder said he doesn't think the anonymity of cryptocurrencies is a good thing, and noted that he thinks it causes deaths in a fairly direct way. He added that he sees crypto as a super risky asset class.
In an AMA (Ask Me Anything) on Reddit today, Gates said the anonymity of the product makes tracking difficult, something that hinders police and helps criminals:

"The main feature of crypto currencies is their anonymity. I don't think this is a good thing. The Governments [sic] ability to find money laundering and tax evasion and terrorist funding is a good thing. Right now crypto currencies are used for buying fentanyl and other drugs so it is a rare technology that has caused deaths in a fairly direct way. I think the speculative wave around ICOs and crypto currencies is super risky for those who go long."
