Enthusiast find way to enable FreeSync on NVIDIA GPUs

A couple of Reddit users detailed a way to enable AMD FreeSync on an NVIDIA GPU. The trick is to use a system with an AMD APU, the switchable graphics features of Windows 10 enable the integrated graphics, to which the display is connected, to function as the "Power Saving" GPU, while the NVIDIA GeForce card in your system works as the "High-Performance GPU". This effectively enables you to get FreeSync running with NVIDIA GPUs.

PC Perspective confirmed the experiment and did some further testing. The site says it will be interesting to see NVIDIA's reaction to this, it could be that future drivers will break compatibility. Overall, the impact here is quite limited as you need a system with an AMD APU, but it opens up interesting options:
However, the backbone of this setup currently hinges on a user having an APU, which obviously not everyone does. If someone could figure out how to configure the devices for switchable graphics in Windows 10 (potentially through a registry edit), then this could potentially be opened up to users who add an inexpensive, low-power AMD discrete GPU to their system and use that card solely for the FreeSync display output. This could even potentially be reversed to make AMD GPUs output to a G-SYNC display in theory, with the right pieces in place.
