DigiTimes heard whispers that ASMedia Technology is expected to tape-out its PCI Express 4.0 chip solutions by the end of this year. If things go well with these chips, AMD is expected to contract ASMedia to develop PCI Express 4.0-based chipsets in 2020.

The site also notes that in Q4 2019, ASMedia will start shipping the B550 and A520 chipsets it designed for AMD:
ASMedia has landed orders for AMD's B550 and A520 chipsets that support PCIe 3.0 and will kick off shipments to motherboard ODMs and OEMs in the fourth quarter of 2019. The company is expected to be able to win orders for PCIe 4.0-based chipsets from AMD in 2020 after the tape-outs are smoothly done, the sources said.

This is despite the fact that ASMedia has not won contract design orders from AMD for 7nm Ryzen 3rd generation processors and X570 motherboard chipsets that support PCIe 4.0 set to hit the market in July, the sources continued.
