Real-time ray tracing is off to a poor start as many gamers don't see the benefit of the RTX technology that was introduced by NVIDIA's Turing family. However, the GPU giant still believes the technology will become massive.

In a presentation at SIGGRAPH, NVIDIA researcher Morgan McGuire predicts ray tracing will become pervasive over the next couple of years. McGuire believes every gaming platform will offer accelerated ray tracing by 2023 and that the first AAA game to require a ray tracing GPU to run will ship in that year.
