Market watchers believe AMD has a good chance of capturing over 10 percent of the server CPU market in 2020. The server market has been AMD's weak spot for many years. With the arrival of the Zen-based EPYC series, the tide started to turn, but the server market is a very slow mover. It's believed that AMD currently has over 5 percent of the server market, which is already a big gain versus the company's almost non-existent marketshare in the final days of its Opteron era.
AMD's second-generation EPYC 7002 series processors, manufactured using Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company's (TSMC) 7nm process, are priced only between US$500-6,950, making them much price-friendlier than their same-grade counterparts from Intel and scoring them orders from several major IT players, the observers noted.
