Take it with a grain of salt, but a report appeared on a Chinese-language site that NVIDIA is working on three RTX 3000 series video cards. The original report is no longer online but WCCF Tech has a copy of the rumor.

Anyway, the report claims NVIDIA will release three GeForce RTX 3000 models in Q3 2020, which points to September or October as the most likely launch timeframe. Furthermore, the piece of news indicates that NVIDIA's add-in board (AIB) partners are already clearing inventory of RTX 2000 cards to prepare for the launch of the Ampere GPUs.
According to China Times, NVIDIA will be introducing at least three tiers of graphics cards (likely the RTX 3080 Ti, RTX 3080, and RTX 3070) but the exact launch might be in a staggered fashion with at least one launch per quarter till Q1 2021. The publication also reports that ASUS has massively declined its inventory in Taiwan and has already introduced price cuts to its spot price to inventory partners in a bid to get rid of excess RTX 2000-series inventory.
It's believed that NVIDIA will introduce its Ampere GPU architecture at the digital GTC event on May 14. This means there will be a pretty long time between the first reveal and actual retail availability of consumer products.
