Choosing Your Next Mobile Device

It may be time for you to upgrade to your next mobile device but with so many choices out there it may be difficult to decide - if you’re a diehard fan of a particular brand you may be encouraged to keep choosing that line of mobile phones simply for familiarity, but it may also serve to be a perfect time for change if you’re tired of using the same operating system with the same old look year after year. The choice is also made more difficult as hardware has become extremely similar amongst all the devices - you may be looking for a device that handles your streamed content in a better way but displays have become extremely similar, you may be looking for something a little faster as you continue to play some casinos that still accept credit card but the majority of processors are still behaving the same, you may just be looking for more storage as manufacturers become wishy washy on whether or not expandable storage is offered - but here are some things to consider whilst choosing your next device.

Connectivity - 5G is just around the corner for many of us if it isn’t already available, whilst most devices will come with 5G capability it may be worth checking out the networking chips inside to see if there’s any information about any potential cap on the speed and availability - many may be similar, but there’s the possibility for outliers in this newer tech.

Display - Fidelity and colour may have been caught up across the spectrum of available devices, one thing that has changed however for some is the refresh rate - this may mean nothing to you, but moving from a device that has a standard 60Hz refresh rate (how quickly the display updates each second) to a 120Hz refresh rate or higher is a huge jump - it’ll make the UI elements feel smoother, and the whole device feel faster. If you’re looking for a better streaming or gaming experience on your mobile device, this is the next big step for you.

Battery Life - This is the next big feature for many aside from things like storage and display - battery life has been steadily improving over the years but some devices are still falling behind. The big change here was when devices went from a removable rear panel that allowed the changing to a higher capacity battery to enclosed unibody designs - look around and you may find a deal on a device with a larger battery capacity or the ability to DIY a change to a bigger battery - it could be the biggest quality of life change in your mobile device.

The next big set of releases can be expected toward the end of the year as Apple gear up to announce their next generation of devices in September, it’s also expected that other big manufacturers may announce around the same time too - if you’re able to wait until then you may have the opportunity to pick on some of the newest tech in mobile devices, if you’re willing to pay the premium to get that tech before most others that is.
