SpaceX has scored new military contracts. The Pentagon has contracted Elon Musk's space firm to develop new rockets capable of delivering packages anywhere on the globe in under an hour. Supply chain issues can grind military operations to a halt and the Pentagon believes SpaceX's rockets could be the biggest logistics innovation since the Second World War. Being able to deliver the equivalent of a C-17 payload anywhere on the planet in under an hour could be a game-changer:
“For the past 75 years or so, we have been constrained to around 40,000 feet altitude and 600 miles per hour in our very fastest method of logistics delivery—airlift,” USTRANSCOM deputy commander U.S. Navy Vice Admiral Dee Mewbourne said during the event announcing the plan. “What are the possibilities for logistical fulfillment at about 10 times those figures, when the need for support on the other side of the world is urgent?”
Additionally, SpaceX also won a contract to develop missile-tracking satellites for the Pentagon.
