UMC looking to buy idle 200mm fabs

DigiTimes reports UMC is weighing its options in the M&A market.

SC Chien, the co-president of the Taiwanese foundry, said the company is interesting in aging and idle 200mm fabs.

UMC is the fourth largest semiconductor foundry in the world, it's just a little bit smaller than GlobalFoundries.
