picked up word that there may be lower-core versions of AMD's next Ryzen Threadripper series. According to details uncovered by the creator of the Clock Tuner for Ryzen, there may be a lower-budget part with 16 cores:
According to other rumors, the Threadripper 5000 series might also have a different codename: “Chagall”. The Genesis Peak might refer to the platform itself, while Chagall directly to the Threadripper series. However, at this time it is not confirmed. Another theory is that Genesis is a codename for the ‘entry-level’ EPYC series which might also feature 16-core SKUs. However, we were explicitly told by Yuri that his ‘leak’ covers Threadripper as the original information mentions sTRX socket.
We may hear more about the Threadripper 5000 series next week, at AMD's virtual CES 2021 event.
