Do we really need more power?

If you take a look around, there is a growing trend in the Power Supply industry. Bigger, more powerful power supplies are being introduced all the time. Is there really a need for them? I guess in the hardcore enthusiast segment there is, but how many hardcore enthusiasts are there out there? I can guess that most of the computers out there today are pre-built systems from the big computer companies, like Dell and Hp to name the biggest.
