DigiTimes writes AMD and MediaTek are in talks to set up a joint-venture to develop communication chips for laptops. Allegedly, the joint-venture would focus on combining Wi-Fi, 5G and high transmission technologies. If the joint-venture becomes reality, the first modem chips from AMD-MediaTek aren't expected to hit the market until 2024.

Last year, AMD and MediaTek already formed a cooperation as AMD adopted MediaTek's Wi-Fi 6 solutions in its laptop chip platform. According to DigiTimes, AMD refused to comment on the rumor, while MediaTek denied it.
