Intel ARC Alchemist to use ARC aXXX naming scheme

Twitter leaker momomo_us discovered Intel will use "ARC aXXX" to identify its upcoming ARC Alchemist discrete video cards. VideoCardz reports the information is part of a sample usage card that was distributed to Intel's board partners and system integrators. It offers some details on how Intel's partners should name the upcoming GPUs.

Logically, this means the next three ARC GPUs from Intel will use the Arc bXXX (Battlemage), Arc cXXX (Celestial) and Arc dXXX (Druid) naming schemes.

VideoCardz also summarized a new video from Moore's Law is Dead. The video claims Intel will have at least three desktop SKUs with 128, 384, and 512 execution units. Allegedly, with the 512 EU edition, Intel is aiming at a performance level between the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 and RTX 3070 Ti.

The Xe-HPG based Arc Alchemist GPU with 512EUs would feature up to 16GB GDDR6 memory with memory at 16 Gbps, although 18 Gbps is also a possibility. This SKU would be based on DG2-512EU GPU which has already been shown by Intel which gave us a rough estimate on the die size: 396 mm². The GPU would therefore be bigger than AMD Navi 22 (335mm²), but about the same size as NVIDIA GA104 (392 mm²). According to MLID, this card would feature 8+6pin power connectors and TDP at 225W.

Intel's ARC Alchemist GPUs are expected in early 2022. Based on recent rumors, Intel still has a lot of work ahead to get its discrete video cards ready for launch. In particular, it's rumored that the drivers are in poor shape right now.
