Rumors have been flying around for several days now about NVIDIA's next-gen GPUs being quite power hungry. VideoCardz writes reliable sources now backup claims about next-gen xx90 series parts having a TGP (total graphics power) of 600W!
Furthermore, just because the cooler is capable of dissipating 600W of power, it does not mean that such configuration will be used by the GPU by default. The cooling capacity is often described as a maximum heat that can be generated by the graphics cards, for instance when power limits are modified by the user during overclocking.
It will be interesting to see if this becomes reality. Dissipating 600W will definitely require very beefy cooling solutions, and there are even rumors about flagship models featuring a TGP of 850W! NVIDIA's RTX 40 series should use the new PCI Express 5.0 power connector. In tandem with the PCIe slot, this 16-pin power cable is enough to deliver up to 675W of power so there will be no need for two cables even if the card has a TGP of 600W.
