The Register writes Toshiba begun shipping its 4GB 3,600RPM 0.85-inch micro HDDs. The company also said at CES 2006 it will boost the capacity of its 0.85-inch HDDs to 10GB with perpendicular recording.
That said, consumer electronics companies looking to use the drives in their products will have to wait until 2007 to take delivery of such "high-capacity" 0.85in units, Toshiba admitted when it announced the products at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas today.
Addionnally, the company also started shipping a 80GB 1.8-inch drive. This is a dual-platter version of the 40GB drive it launched in August last year.
