AMD is expected to increase pricing of some of its Socket 939 Opteron processors on January 23rd. The 165, 170 and 175 will become a bit more expensive while the Opteron 180 will get a price reduction.

The reason for the price hike appears to be because AMD wants to stop enthusiasts from buying these chips, and buy consumer level processors instead.

On January 23rd the company will also cut prices of some of its Athlon 64 FX and Athlon 64 X2 desktop processors.

Family Model Current Price New Price (23rd Jan)
