Sony still hopes for Spring 2006 PS3 launch

Last week investors reported the Sony PlayStation 3 console would cost at least $800 to manufacture, making it likely that Sony will need to postpone the launch of their new console. But Sony said today that they are still hoping to launch the PS3 this Spring:
The word on the street now is that Sony is still hopeful for a Spring launch. But this launch date is dependent on whether specifications for its Blu-ray optical disc technology and audio/video input/output support are finalized. "We're waiting for them until the last possible minute, but the launch could be pushed back if they're not decided soon," said a Sony Computer Entertainment spokeswoman.

Many analysts still doubt the Spring 2006 date citing that it is too unrealistic.
