AMD Zone has posted their review of the Athlon 64 FX60. They compare to the previous FX CPUs, and the X2 4800+ as well as the Pentium D 840 with many single and multithreaded applications. They also Overclock the new FX to see where the ceiling is.

Well things started to slowly shift. Nvidia and ATI started adding dual core optimizations to their drivers starting in the 80 series and 5.1 versions respectively. That was certainly progress, but the real kicker was when Quake 4 patch version 1.05 beta, and Call of Duty version 1.01 were released. These included multi threading optimizations with assistance from Intel, but our exclusive testing showed clear benefits to AMD dual core processors. So suddenly gamers had some hope that dual core could matter even if so far 64 bit gaming had disappointed most.

This leads us to the announcement of the Athlon 64 FX60 dual core CPU clocked at 2.6GHz with a full 1MB of L2 cache for each core. We have waited a full half of a year for 200 additional MHz, but with the FX line we also gain the advantage of an unlocked clock multiplier. How will this CPU fair compared to the initial dual core launch with drivers and games optimized for multi threading? We would expect a rosier picture at long last. We begin with a look at the specifications for the Athlon 64 FX60.
