Logitech's new Cordless Desktop LX series (released July 2004) has set a new standard in computer desktop look, feel, and functionality. The LX series' sleek new design sits low and has an ergonomic fit that allows a user's hand to flow over the keypad. Logitech developed their unique "Zero Degree Tilt™" system to provide the user with a flat low profile keyboard that has a 0° slope. Many computer users have begun to feel the effects of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS), which can be caused by repetitive hand, wrist, and arm movements. According to the Department of Health and Human Services Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and study by Jill Shelly of Kansas State University, "CTC is the compression and entrapment of the median nerve where it passes through the wrist into the hand. When irritated, tendons swell and press against the nearby median nerve. The pressure causes tingling, numbness or severe pain in the wrist, and hand, primarily in the thumb, index and middle finger. The pain is often experienced at night. The pressure also results in a lack of strength in the hand and an inability to make a fist, hold objects or perform other manual tasks. If the pressure continues it can damage the nerve, causing loss of sensation and even decreased strength." Additionally, Jill has stated "Prevention includes appropriate exercises, proper positioning of the wrist and hand, avoiding repetitive movements, and avoiding use of excessive force using the hands." The LX series' new low profile flat design ensures that a user will have less wrist extension, and help to keep the users hand in a more rigid straight line creating more comfort and less chance of injury.
