Sony PlayStation Portable Review

Seems to me that people either love or hate the new Sony PSP, depending on their initial experience with it. Fair enough. I personally LOVE my PSP!

I purchased the unit along with 2 games and a 512mb memory card, which is adequate for storing a movie, save games, and a couple dozen mp3s. I now have a handheld, portable "entertainment" system, featuring a stunning 4.3 inch "plasma-like" screen.

Now, admittedly, one might say you could do better buying something like an iPod, which holds thousands of songs, and the Archos Gmini (or similar) with 20GB of storage for movies, and perhaps a Nintendo GameBoy or DS system for playing games. But here in the Sony PSP we have all three entertainment mediums in a single unit. And did I mention the amazing 4.3 inch screen?

Anyone who travels knows what a plus this is to only carry one device instead of three. The trick with the PSP is to buy the largest capacity memory card you can afford it. Since these MemoryStick Pro Duo cards are about the size of a postage stamp, carrying several around does not present much of a problem.

I've heard/read a lot about the PSP's lacking battery life, but so far I have not had issue with this. Experience has proved that *I've* tired of gaming or watching movies before the battery died.

Overall, I would recommend the PSP to anyone interested in playing games, watching movies, and listening to music on the go. However, given other reviews here stating the "dead pixel" problems (something I have not personally experienced--my screen is perfect), I would suggest you buy it somewhere where you know you can return, should that be an issue.
