ThermalTake V6 BlacX Edition review

On the right side of the case is a large cut-out to make it easier to swap your processor cooler and you can also see that it's possible to secure 5.25" devices with a screw, if you're not comfortable enough with only using the tool-free mechanism on the left side of the case. Unfortunately, there's practically no space between the motherboard plate and the right side panel so your cable management options are quite limited.

All of the drive bays use a plastic tool-free mounting mechanism, it's not very elegant but it works pretty well to keep devices securely in place.

To remove the lock device you have to turn the plastic handle counterclockwise.

The black piece of plastic has two metal pins that slide into the mounting holes of your 5.25" devices.

There are nine 5.25" drive bays but the one on top can't be used for optical disk drives because the cables of the SATA dock occupy some of the space of the top 5.25" bay. A removable HDD cage is installed in the three bottom 5.25" bays, this cage can be moved upwards if you need to create more space for your graphics cards or if you want to tuck away some cables in this area.

On the picture below you can see why you can't install a DVD or Blu-ray drive in the top 5.25" drive bay. The area can be used to install a solid state disk via the included adapter.

This piece of metal lets you install an additional 3.5" HDD or a 2.5" SSD/HDD.

All bay covers feature removable dust filters.

The front panel can be removed without a lot of hassle, it enables you to slide the HDD cage out of the case without having to remove your power supply.

The HDD cage supports three 3.5" disks and it offers support for an optional 120mm fan. If you install just one disk this may not be needed but if you use three HDDs it may be a good idea to install a fan to give your disks some airflow. The HDD cage can be removed without any tools, but to my surprise the HDDs have to be mounted with screws. More about the awkward mounting system will follow on the next page.
