ThermalTake Bach VX case review

Testing and installation
When I started installing my hardware into the Bach VX I immediately found one major design flaw which makes it hard to install PSUs and even impossible to install power supplies that are slightly bigger than average like the Ultra X-Connect 500W. It would be a lot easier to install power supplies if the case would be a few centimeters taller. This would allow you to install the PSU by sliding it over the support bar.

Currently the installation of a power supply isn't really user friendly. When building your system the PSU needs to be installed first because if you install the motherboard first there won't be enough room to maneuver the PSU in place. This also means that if you want to change your power supply you will first need to take out your motherboard.

Except for the problem with the installation of my power supply, the rest of the installation went fine. The tool-free installation kits were pleasant to work with and the installation went pretty quick. The only thing that is missing is a removable motherboard tray. Most cases, including the Bach VX case, don't have this feature but it makes the installation or replacing of a motherboard a bit easier.

I also discovered a few sharp edges but fortunately, I didn't cut my fingers this time.

After about 30 minutes the system was ready.

Conclusion
For most people the Bach VX will be a superb case - it has great looks and it's very user friendly. The case has a great build quality and is very silent with its big 120mm (15dbA) and 140mm (16dbA) fans. The only thing that bothers me a bit is that the power supply needs to be installed first and that some bigger PSUs won't fit. Other than this, the Bach VX case is perfect and I definitely recommend it.

The Good Stuff:
- Lots of user-friendly features like the tool-free drive bays and PCI slots, fan slots, thumbscrews, ...
- Looks pretty
- Front panel is very easy to open, making it simple to clean the dust filter
- Big fans for silent cooling
- Front and side panels can be locked
- The case is well-made, no flimsy feeling

The Bad Stuff:
- PSU needs to be installed first.
- PSU is hard to install and bigger than average PSUs won't fit
- Some sharp edges
- Hard drive cage needs to be removed if you want to install large graphics cards. However, since the Bach VX is a mid-tower and not a full-tower case this isn't such a big problem.
- There's no removable motherboard tray

The recommended retail price of the version with a window is $122 and the version without a window will go for approx. $114.

I give the ThermalTake Bach VX case a 9/10.
