In recent years, AMD hasn't really been able to shine in the high-end video card market. The company sold a lot of cards thanks to the cryptocurrency boom, but it hasn't been able to compete with NVIDIA's Pascal cards in the high-end market.

In a new interview with Barron's, AMD CEO Lisa Su talked about the impact of the new trade tariffs and expressed her confidence about AMD's product pipelines.

One interesting snippet perhaps is that Su is confident AMD will be competitive in high-end graphics:
Su is still confident about AMD’s product pipelines for both of its CPU and graphics businesses, noting a tendency of some investors to myopically focus on short term quarter by quarter results.

We will be “competitive in high-end graphics,” she said. “We’re making high-performing quality products and building a solid long-term foundation.”
At the moment, there's little word about AMD's plans for the consumer graphics market. We know a 7nm Vega for datacenters is close to hitting the market, but it's unknown whether there will also be a 7nm Vega for the consumer market.

The Navi GPU is expected to hit the market next year, but all rumors so far indicate this chip is the successor to Polaris, and will not be able to compete with NVIDIA's high-end offerings. This implies we'll have to wait until 2020 for Arcturus to see a potential return of AMD in the high-end video card market.
